about

I. Storm Tower
I wasn't sure if I'd done it intentionally, not even after I'd done it. Not even after I'd placed my hand against the smooth base of the tower and felt the hum I had only sensed. First there was a hum, then there was a flash.

II. Suspension Tower
Once the greenish afterimage of the flash subsided, I saw what had happened. The base of the tower floated in the grey air above my head, suspended not at all, or by something invisible to me. The body and arms of the tower swung back and forth like a pendulum.

III. Terminal Tower
I stood there, feet firmly planted on the ground, studying the floating tower through diluted light. It no longer felt like neutral territory, impartial to what I'd done. By accident, perhaps, a subconscious impulse, but I'd done it all the same. The hum felt like a distress signal, now.

IV. Dead-End Structures
And then there came the voice. Soft and gibbering and maybe a woman. I strained to hear, for it seemed to be coming from the top of the tower, too far for the senses to interpret. "I am alone," I think she said. "I am alone, and the last one."

Arell is very proud to present April Larson's 'Undergrounding in a Storm' (her second release for us - please see Arell002 'The Breathing Tunnel' for her first). 'Undergrounding in a Storm' is a masterful work of drones and ambience, capturing perfectly the micro and the macro aspects of a landscape at the mercy of nature. A wonderful soundscape for dark skies and ominous portents.
